The CBS report:
Bert Diaz says, "I think they're having a hard time understanding church law." We understand it as practiced by the diocese alright; it is a kangaroo court. The bishop sets it up to achieve the answer he wants. He picks the witnesses and scope of the proceeding and sets the stage.

I think the diocese is having a hard time understanding that Catholic faith and Jesus' teaching. Jesus faced this same problem with corrupt hierarchy in his day and he called them to task using words like "vipers, hypocrites, evil ones". They killed him for it. You know they wish they could get away with that today!

-A disgusted Catholic who will overcome this corrupt bishop and his minions.

CBS News Video:
Very well done! However, I think Fr. Bert Diaz and his Bishop are having a little trouble understanding the difference between United States law and Church Law. In this case, US law will prevail. Lets just let the courts decide! Shame on the Bishop for spending so much of our donated money on this… or, is this still part of the proceeds from the millions that the diocese confiscated from the ‘over-funded’ Employee Trust Fund?

Amen to 20/20...
Isn't it sad that most of the millions in the 'over-funded' Lay Employee Trust Fund has been used to cover-up the sex-abuse of children within our dioceses.
We should all be thanking these Lay Employees for allowing their Bishop to take all their hard earned money and use it for this purpose! I'm sure he asked them for their permission...

Just think about how much good those millions could have been if used to feed the poor here in the Valley. That is the REAL crime here!

Re: The Real Crime
No, the REAL crime here is “theft of funds and benefits”. Taking hard earned money from its rightful owner(s) and disposing of it with no consideration to those who earned it! It’s call “STEALING” in the real world! And we are expected to show reverance to someone who does that to his employees? Who are the fools here?

Re: The Real Crime.
OK, I am not from your area, but have a few questions.
How did the Bishop get his hands on the Lay Employee Trust Fund in the first place? Did the lay employees give him permission to cash it in by a vote? A TRUST FUND is just that, money that is placed "in trust" so that no one person is able to use the funds to their advantage or gain. Even if changes are made to the fund, whoever makes those changes can still be held responsible if the value of the fund has been diminished. How has your bishop been able to get away with this?

Outsider:
It happens because most Catholics refuse to believe that their Bishop is capable of doing any wrong, even if he is known to have covered-up sex crimes, harbored sex offenders, stonewalled the authorities and has lied to the victim's families. WAKE UP PEOPLE!
20/20 Too.
